Courant is a family owned company with a tradition of almost 200 years.
Manufacturing experience has thus been passed down from generation to generation since 1825.
The Anjou region was known for the cultivation and production of hemp. The company's original activity was the production of hemp ropes and fishing nets.
Marcel Courant brought about a turning point in the company's history by first using a synthetic material, nylon (polyamide), to increase the strength of the ropes. Innovation has been embedded in Courant's DNA since the company's inception.
Professional rope access became part of production in the 1970s when Courant and the French elcectric power supply leader collaborated to improve the safety of operators working on high voltage lines.
